Glacier Fun!

We decided to take and end of the summer trip to one of the girls' favorite places - Glacier! Shawn took a day off work and we made an extended weekend out of it. As always, we had a blast and the girls came home satisfied and utterly exhausted!

We stayed at Taylor's favorite place, the Cabins (the W Glacier KOA). From there we spent the better part of a day out on Whitefish Lake and in the town of Whitefish. We then went exploring in to Glacier, up near the Polebridge entrance. We stopped at Bowman Lake, where we hiked along the shoreline a little bit and enjoyed the gorgeous scenery! Taylor shocked us all by finding and picking up a HUGE frog! She was really proud of herself. Hailey thought she wanted to hold it, and then promptly tossed it!

After exploring a morning of the park, we let the girls do their favorite activity - panning for treasures! Taylor found a ton of fossils, and Hailey got a bunch of gemstones. This is always a highlight for the girls.

After the better part of the day being spent as tourists, we decided to get away from the hustle and bustle and we headed to the Middle Fork of the Flathead River. The water is absolutely beautiful, and it was really cool to just see trout hanging out in these deep pools of the river. We let Taylor cross the river herself (one of her favorite things from the trip), and while Shawn fly-fished the girls and I explored the river, looked for rocks, and built bird nests. As you can see from the pictures Maggie also enjoyed herself. She was busy looking for fish under the water also. You would say, "Maggie what's down there?," and she would stick her head under the water and then paw at the fish. It was fun to watch.

Shawn did not end up catching anything (much to his frustration as he could see the trout take the fly and then quickly spit it out), but it was probably a good thing since Maggie was beside herself trying to retrieve the fly!

The weekend was capped off with an afternoon spent out on Flathead Lake tubing. The water is so crystal clear that you could just drive around all day and look at the cool rocks, etc on the bottom. We picnicked on the boat and did a little swimming also.

All in all it was another fulfilling trip over to the Glacier area, and we are just cementing even more that it is the girls' favorite place!
